Zocor Precautions and Warnings

There are many Zocor precautions and warnings to be aware of. Some conditions to let your healthcare provider know about before you take Zocor include heart disease, diabetes, and a family history of high cholesterol. Among other things, Zocor can cause an increase in enzymes, muscle pain, and rhabdomyolysis (the severe breakdown of muscles) in some people. A few of the people who should not take Zocor are those who are pregnant or nursing and those with active liver disease or unexplained high liver enzymes. Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider about any precautions and warnings for Zocor that may apply to you.

 

Zocor: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking
 Zocor® (simvastatin) if you have:
 

 

Let your healthcare provider know if you:

 
  • Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Will be undergoing a procedure or surgery
  • Drink alcohol frequently.

 

Also, tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines that you may already be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, antacids, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

 
Finally, make sure to contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, especially if it is accompanied by body aches or a fever.
