Vascepa Uses

How Does It Work?

Vascepa contains the omega-3 fatty acid EPA. Although the specifics of exactly how EPA works are not fully understood yet, it is known that it decreases the liver's production of triglycerides and increases the breakdown of triglycerides in the bloodstream.

Is It Safe for Children to Use Vascepa?

Vascepa is not approved for use in children. This certainly does not mean that children cannot take Vascepa; it just means that this medication has not been adequately studied in children. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks of using Vascepa in children.

Off-Label Uses for Vascepa

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Vascepa for treating something other than extremely high triglycerides. This is called an "off-label" use. Treating moderately high triglycerides (less than 500 mg/dL) would be an off-label use for Vascepa.
