Vascepa Side Effects

Side Effects to Report

Some side effects of Vascepa are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:

  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the lips, mouth, or throat
    • Wheezing or other breathing problems.

Theoretically, omega-3 medications like Vascepa could increase the risk of bleeding, although bleeding was not reported as a Vascepa side effect in clinical trials. Nonetheless, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you notice any signs of bleeding, such as:

  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Signs of gastrointestinal bleeding, such as:

    • Black, tarry stools
    • Bright-red blood in the stool
    • Vomiting of blood

  • Signs of a hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain), such as:

    • Vision or speech changes
    • Weakness or numbness in an arm or leg
    • A severe headache.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking Vascepa or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be related to the medication, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
