When and How to Take It

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Vascepa include the following:
  • This medication comes in capsule form. It is taken by mouth twice a day with food.
  • Swallow the capsules whole; do not chew, crush, dissolve, or open them.
  • It is important to follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for any diet and exercise changes you need to make. Your healthcare provider may also recommend that you limit alcohol consumption to help lower your triglycerides.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.

Dosing Information

There is only one recommended Vascepa dose, regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Side Effects of Vascepa

Just like any medicine, Vascepa can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. Serious side effects are less common.
In studies, the only Vascepa side effect that occurred commonly (and more frequently compared to a placebo) was joint pain.
