Pravachol® (pravastatin sodium) is a prescription medicine commonly used for the treatment of high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is also approved to prevent heart disease and heart-related problems. By blocking a particular enzyme that controls the rate of cholesterol production in the body, Pravachol can decrease triglycerides, increase HDL ("good cholesterol"), and increase the liver's ability to collect and get rid of LDL ("bad cholesterol"). Nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and headache are some of the most common side effects reported with Pravachol.
