A healthcare provider may prescribe Pravachol® (pravastatin sodium) to help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The medication is a type of statin that has been shown to be effective in increasing HDL ("good cholesterol"), decreasing LDL ("bad cholesterol"), and reducing triglycerides. Pravachol comes in tablet form and is available in 10, 20, 40, and 80 mg strengths. Before using this medicine, it is important to talk to your healthcare provider if you have hypothyroidism, any allergies, or a family history of high cholesterol.
