Pravachol Drug Interactions

When certain medications are taken Pravachol, interactions may occur and can potentially lead to severe complications. Some of the drugs that can interact with Pravachol include danazol, warfarin, and niacin. Some of these drug interactions may increase your risk for developing serious muscle problems, so let your healthcare provider know if you experience unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness while taking Pravachol.

Pravachol Interactions: An Overview

 Pravachol® (pravastatin sodium) can potentially interact with a number of different medications. Some the medicines that can cause drug interactions with Pravachol include:
 
  • Certain antifungals, such as:
     
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®), fluconazole (Diflucan®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Miconazole
    • Posaconazole (Noxafil®)
    • Voriconazole (VFEND®)
 
 
  • Niacin (nicotinic acid, Niacor®, Nicolar®).
     
Some of these Pravachol interactions may increase your risk for developing serious muscle problems (see Pravachol and Muscle Pain). If you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness while taking Pravachol, especially if you also have a fever or you feel ill, it is important to contact your healthcare provider right away.
