Policosanol? Polycosonal is a common misspelling of policosanol.

Policosanol is a "natural" product that is a mixture of fatty alcohols from plant waxes. It is claimed to be beneficial for reducing cholesterol levels by decreasing cholesterol production in the liver and increasing the breakdown of cholesterol in the body. Prior to using the dietary supplement, you should talk to your healthcare provider if you have a bleeding disorder, are pregnant, or have any allergies. It is important to know that policosanol has never been proven to be effective for lowering cholesterol.
