There are many warnings and precautions with Zocor to be aware of. For example, before beginning treatment, tell your healthcare provider if you have heart disease, diabetes, or a family history of high cholesterol. Zocor can cause an increase in enzymes, muscle pain, and rhabdomyolysis. People who should avoid the drug include those who are pregnant or nursing and those with active liver disease or unexplained high liver enzymes.

Zocor: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking Zocor® (simvastatin) if you have:
In addition, let your healthcare provider know if you:
  • Are of Chinese descent
  • Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Will be undergoing a procedure or surgery
  • Drink alcohol frequently.
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines that you may already be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, antacids, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Finally, make sure to contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, especially if it is accompanied by body aches or a fever.
