Cholesterol Home > Vascepa Drug Interactions

Certain drugs may not be safe to use while undergoing treatment with Vascepa, as dangerous interactions can occur. In particular, combining Vascepa with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs that thin the blood can increase the risk of bleeding. If you take these medications together, notify your healthcare provider immediately if you develop a severe headache, vision changes, or bleeding that is difficult to stop.

An Overview of Interactions With Vascepa

Vascepa™ (icosapent ethyl) may react with a number of other products. Specifically, interactions can occur when Vascepa is taken with medications that "thin" the blood (anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs), such as:

    • Alteplase (Activase®)
    • Reteplase (Retavase®)
    • Streptokinase (Streptase®)
    • Tenecteplase (TNKase®)
