Lovaza is not approved for use in children. This certainly does not mean that children cannot take Lovaza; it just means that this medication (like most medications) has not been adequately studied in children. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks of using Lovaza in children.
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Lovaza for something other than very
high triglycerides. These are known as
off-label uses. Currently, Lovaza is sometimes used off-label for the following purposes:
- Treating a kidney disorder known as IgA nephropathy
- Preventing a second heart attack
- Lowering moderately high triglycerides (less than 500 mg/dL)
- Treating heart failure.
