Lovaza Capsules

Lovaza® (
omega-3-acid ethyl esters) is a medication made from fish oil. It is approved for the treatment of very high triglycerides.

The capsules contain two different omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) that decrease the liver's production of triglycerides. Although there are many inexpensive fish oil dietary supplements available, this drug has a higher concentration of EPA and DHA.

The medicine is available by prescription and comes in only one strength -- Lovaza 1 gram (1000 mg) capsules. It is taken by mouth, usually once or twice a day.

While most people tolerate the capsules well, potential side effects of Lovaza include infections, burping, flu symptoms (such as fever or chills), and ingestion or heartburn.
