Livalo Side Effects
Among the common side effects of Livalo are muscle pain, constipation, and diarrhea. In most cases, people tolerate this medication well, and reactions to this medication are typically easy to treat. However, some symptoms are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away. Some of these side effects to report include muscle pain, dark urine, and difficulty breathing.
Just like any medicine, Livalo® (pitavastatin) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with this drug. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Livalo has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, one group of people received Livalo, while another group was given a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.
In these studies, the most common side effects of Livalo included but were not limited to:
- Back pain -- in up to 3.9 percent of people
- Constipation -- up to 3.6 percent
- Muscle pain -- up to 3.1 percent (see Livalo and Muscle Pain)
- Diarrhea -- up to 2.6 percent
- Extremity pain, such as joint pain -- up to 2.3 percent.
