Can You Take Too Much Livalo?
Livalo® (
pitavastatin) is a prescription medication licensed to treat
high cholesterol. It belongs to a class of medications commonly called "
statins." As with any medication, it is possible to take too much Livalo.
It is not known exactly what to expect from a Livalo overdose. However, the specific effects would likely vary depending on a number of factors, including the
Livalo dosage and whether it was taken with any other medications or substances.
Seek immediate medical attention if you or someone else may have overdosed on this drug.
It is not clear what exactly to expect from an overdose with Livalo. Overdoses with some other statin medications did not seem to cause any significant or long-lasting problems. An overdose with Livalo may not cause any severe effects, other than the usual
Livalo side effects that may be more pronounced.
If the overdose was recent, a healthcare provider may administer activated charcoal or "pump the stomach" to help reduce the amount of the medication that is absorbed into the bloodstream.
Treatment will also involve supportive care, which consists of treating the symptoms that occur as a result of the overdose. For example, supportive treatment options for a Livalo overdose may include the following:
- Closely monitoring the heart, blood pressure, and breathing
- Fluids through an intravenous (IV) line
- Other treatments based on the symptoms that occur.
Dialysis is not expected to be useful for removing Livalo from the blood.
It is important that you seek medical attention immediately if you believe you may have taken too much Livalo.
