Livalo Drug Interactions

Red Yeast Rice
Red yeast rice is a supplement used to lower cholesterol. Taking Livalo with red yeast rice may increase your risk for serious muscle problems, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (see Livalo and Muscle Pain). In general, you should not take this medication with red yeast rice.

Sildenafil
Taking sildenafil and Livalo at the same time may increase your risk for serious muscle problems, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (see Livalo and Muscle Pain). Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications. If you do take these medications together, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any muscle pain or weakness.

Warfarin
Medications like Livalo have been shown to increase the effects of warfarin, potentially increasing the risk for bleeding. Although it is unclear if Livalo also interacts with warfarin, it may be a good idea to monitor warfarin therapy more closely when Livalo is first started.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all drug interactions with Livalo were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about specific interactions that may apply to you.

It is always a good idea to give your healthcare provider a complete list of all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, herbs, and supplements.
