Lipofen

When and How Should I Take Lipofen?

Some general considerations for when and how to take the medication include:

  • This medication comes in the form of a capsule. It is taken by mouth once daily.

  • Take this medication with a meal, as it is better absorbed when taken with food.

  • Be sure to take Lipofen at the same time each day to keep an even level of the medication in the blood.

  • For Lipofen to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. It will not work if you stop taking it.

Dosing Information

The dose of Lipofen that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • How you respond to the medication
  • Your cholesterol and triglyceride levels and goals
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may currently be taking.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Potential Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Lipofen, but not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate the drug quite well. When people do develop side effects, in most cases, they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or a healthcare professional. If side effects do occur, most people do not need to stop their medicine.

Some of the most common side effects with Lipofen include:

  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
  • Respiratory problems.

Keep in mind that if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (especially if these symptoms are accompanied by a fever or a feeling of illness), it is important to contact your healthcare provider immediately. This could be a sign of a serious, life-threatening muscle problem (see Lipofen and Muscle Pain for more information).
