Lipitor® (atorvastatin calcium) is a medication commonly used for treating high cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is also licensed to prevent heart or blood vessel disease. Lipitor, which is available by prescription only, comes in tablet form and is generally taken once a day. Before your healthcare provider prescribes Lipitor, make sure he or she is aware if you have liver disease or kidney disease. Potential side effects of the drug include unexplained rash, diarrhea, and infections.
