Lescol Drug Interactions

Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Theoretically, Lescol may decrease the level of hormones in the body. Since ketoconazole can also lower hormone levels, taking these medications together may increase your risk of problems due to low hormones. Talk to your healthcare provider before combining these two medications.

Niacin (Nicotinic Acid, Niacor, Nicolar)
Combining Lescol with niacin may increase your risk of dangerous side effects, including myopathy and rhabdomyolysis (see Lescol and Muscle Pain). Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Omeprazole (Prilosec)
Taking omeprazole with Lescol may cause the levels of Lescol in the blood to be significantly higher than intended. When using these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and make necessary dosing adjustments.

Phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek)
Taking phenytoin and Lescol together can increase the level of both medications in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and adjust your dosages as necessary.

Ranitidine (Zantac)
Combining ranitidine with Lescol may cause the levels of Lescol in the blood to be significantly higher than intended. When taking these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and make necessary dosing adjustments.

Rifampin (Rifadin)
Rifampin can decrease the level of Lescol in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of Lescol to prevent this drug interaction from occurring.
