Lescol Dosage (Cont.)

Lescol Dosage for Children

The recommended starting dosage of Lescol for children (ages 10 to 16) with high cholesterol is Lescol 20 mg once a day. If your child does not reach his or her cholesterol goal on the starting Lescol dosage, your healthcare provider may choose to increase the dose. The Lescol dosage can also be decreased if side effects of Lescol occur. The maximum daily dosage for children is Lescol 80 mg.

General Lescol Dosage Information

Some considerations for people taking Lescol include:

  • Your Lescol medication should be taken with the evening meal or right before bedtime. If you are taking two doses per day, the other dose can be taken in the morning.

  • To maintain even levels of Lescol in your body, make sure to take Lescol at the same time each day.

  • Lescol can be taken with or without food.

  • Lescol comes in a capsule. Lescol XL comes in a tablet. Do not break, chew, crush, or open the Lescol capsules or tablets.

  • For Lescol to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Lescol will not work if you stop taking it.

  • Remember that lowering cholesterol begins with lifestyle changes (weight loss, low-cholesterol diet, exercise, etc.). If lifestyle changes do not lower cholesterol to a desirable level, cholesterol medication, such as Lescol, may be necessary. However, even in people who are taking cholesterol medication, lifestyle changes are still important for maintaining a good cholesterol level.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to Lescol or your Lescol dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking Lescol without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
