An Introduction to Juvisync Side Effects
Just like any medicine,
Juvisync® (
sitagliptin/simvastatin) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
When taking Juvisync, if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (especially if accompanied by a fever or feeling of illness), it is important to contact your healthcare provider immediately.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Juvisync. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of Juvisync
Juvisync contains two separate medications, and it was approved based on information known for those two separate medications.
Therefore, at this time, the available information on possible side effects of Juvisync is actually just information about the two drugs used individually (not in combination).
For the
sitagliptin component, the only commonly reported side effects were a stuffy/runny nose and
sore throat (common
cold symptoms), which occurred in 5.2 percent of people.
Simvastatin has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking simvastatin were documented and compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people who were taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group taking the placebo.
