Can Breastfeeding Women Take Juvisync?
It is unknown if
Juvisync® (
sitagliptin/simvastatin) is safe for use while nursing. Currently, it is recommended that women should not take this product while breastfeeding. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding or plan to start.
More Information on Juvisync and Breastfeeding
It is not known whether either of the active ingredients in Juvisync (
simvastatin and
sitagliptin) passes through breast milk in humans. It is also unclear whether Juvisync would cause significant problems in a nursing infant.
Because of the way it works, Juvisync might affect blood sugar levels and
cholesterol levels in a breastfeeding infant, potentially causing serious problems. If the drug does happen to pass through breast milk, it is also thought that an infant would likely develop any of the possible
Juvisync side effects.
Talking With Your Healthcare Provider
You should discuss breastfeeding and
Juvisync use with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
