Although the causes of high triglycerides are not known, certain risk factors can increase your chances of developing high triglyceride levels. Some of these factors include being obese or overweight, excessive alcohol use, genetic disorders, and physical inactivity. Inadequate fasting is probably the most common cause of high triglycerides, however, as triglycerides in the blood increase following a meal and can remain increased for up to 10 hours.
