Besides exercising, it is also important to maintain a healthy diet to lower triglycerides. For example, eating fish that is high in omega-3 fatty acids (as well as taking fish oil supplements) can decrease triglyceride levels. A diet to lower triglycerides, which is similar to a cholesterol-lowering diet, should include limiting the amount of cholesterol in your diet, having no more than 7 to 10 percent of total calories coming from saturated fat, and eating only enough calories to achieve or maintain a healthy weight.
