In addition to starting a diet to lower triglycerides, a person with high triglyceride levels should also limit (or eliminate) the use of alcohol. Fish oil supplements and fish that are high in omega-3 fatty are also recommended as part of your diet, as these products are effective in decreasing triglycerides. A diet to lower triglycerides is similar to a cholesterol-lowering diet; it should include limiting the amount of cholesterol in your diet and no more than 7 to 10 percent of total calories coming from saturated fat.
