Triglycerides are not a bad thing. They serve an important purpose in keeping the body healthy. Unfortunately, some people have high triglycerides in the blood (known as hypertriglyceridemia). Having high levels for long periods of time can greatly increase your risk of serious medical problems, like heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, and other heart and blood vessel problems.
 
There are several ways to reduce triglyceride levels. One way is through changing your diet. If you have high triglycerides, talk to your healthcare provider about what he or she recommends for weight loss, exercise, and diet to lower triglycerides.
