Side Effects of Fenofibrate: An Overview
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with
fenofibrate (
Triglide™,
Tricor®,
Antara™, or
Lofibra®). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are generally minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or a healthcare professional. In previous research studies, up to 5 percent of people taking fenofibrate stopped their medicine because of side effects.
The use of fenofibrate has been associated with a rare but serious side effect known as rhabdomyolysis (serious breakdown of muscle). Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if they are accompanied by a fever or unusual tiredness
(see Tricor and Muscle Pain).
