Other Cholesterol Medicines as Fenofibrate Alternatives

Many types of cholesterol medicines are available. Besides fibrates, the four other major classes of cholesterol medications are:
 
There are also combination medicines available, such as Simcor®, Vytorin®, and Advicor®.
  
For lowering cholesterol and/or triglycerides, the type of medicine that your doctor recommends will be based on many things, like your cholesterol levels (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides), heart disease risk factors, and other medical conditions. Each of these types of cholesterol medicines works a little differently, so depending on your situation, these possible fenofibrate alternatives may or may not be appropriate for you.
