Lowering cholesterol typically begins with lifestyle modifications. This includes a diet that is low in cholesterol(see Low Cholesterol Diet) and saturated fats, limited alcohol use, weight loss, and exercise. If lifestyle changes alone do not lower cholesterol levels enough, certain medications, such as Colestid, may be necessary.
Since Colestid can lower both total and LDLcholesterol levels, a person can decrease his or her risk of developing certain health problems in the future by taking it.
Colestid Uses in Children
Colestid has not been approved for use in children with high cholesterol.
Off-Label Colestid Uses
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Colestid for treating something other than the conditions discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label Colestid uses.
