Cholestyramine is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat several conditions. These uses include:
 
  • Lowering LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) in patients with high total cholesterol
  • Relief of itching caused by a partial biliary obstruction.
     
Cholestyramine is currently available in two generic forms.
 

Generic Cholestyramine: Strengths

Generic cholestyramine is sold under the name Cholestyramine powder and Cholestyramine Light powder.
 
One scoopful of Cholestyramine or Cholestyramine Light powder contains 4 grams of cholestyramine. The generic is also available in single packets that contain 4 grams of cholestyramine.
 

Who Makes Generic Cholestyramine?

Generic cholestyramine is currently manufactured by several companies, including Sandoz and Eon Laboratories.
