People with high cholesterol are often encouraged to make lifestyle changes, such as eating a healthier diet. A cholesterol lowering diet emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes while calling for reduced consumption of animal-based products (such as meat, poultry, egg yolks, and dairy products). There is also a focus on reducing saturated fats and trans fat. If you are following a cholesterol lowering diet, no more than 7 percent of your daily caloric intake should come from saturated fat.
