How Accurate Is the Test?
Cholesterol self testing can be about as accurate as the testing done in your doctor's office, but you must follow the directions carefully.
Self tests vary in accuracy from brand to brand. Information about the test's accuracy is printed on its package. Cholesterol self tests that say they are "traceable" to a program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be more accurate than others.
Things to Remember When Self-Testing Your Cholesterol
If your test shows that your cholesterol is higher than 200 mg/dL, talk to your healthcare provider. Diet, exercise, and other factors can lower high
cholesterol levels. Your healthcare provider may want you to test your cholesterol again.
