Other Cholesterol Medicines as Alternatives to Advicor

Many types of cholesterol medicines are available. Besides statins, the three other major classes of cholesterol medications are:

Bile acid sequestrants (Prevalite^®, Questran^®, Questran^® Light, LoCholest^®, Colestid^®, WelChol^®)
Cholesterol absorption inhibitors (Zetia^®)
Fibrates (Lopid^®, Tricor^®, Antara^®, Lipofen^®, Triglide^®, Lofibra™).

There is also another combination medicine called Vytorin^® that is available.

The type of medicine that your doctor recommends for lowering cholesterol will be based on many things, like your cholesterol levels (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides), heart disease risk factors, and other medical conditions.
